maingot., by maingot.

The Rust Music presents a lovely Debut self-titled EP by maingot. – lush beatstrumentals with pure classic vibes. Big sounds throwing back to the early 2000’s channeling flavors of Dilla, boom bap and NYC hip hop – funky, dusty and deliciously downtempo. It’s lovely chillhop with just enough edge to set it apart – opting for more true hip hop flavors than timid “lofi beats to study to” style. Though these tracks will certainly fit in any playlist of the like, it’s refreshing to hear a more direct and oldschool approach to instrumentals. Looking forward to hearing what maingot. has for us next!

Return of the Ocelot, by Vimana Aircraft

Fresh and raw boom-bap beats from the mastermind behind DaP Station Records – we are blessed with a nice new beat tape by Vimana Aircraft. What we are blessed with is 8-tracks of lushly lo-fi improvisations that are simply overflowing with energy. Oversaturated and distorted percussion and synths blur into a fuzzy and deliciously thick style. Satisfyingly rough and gritty, what more do you want from a lo-fi beat tape!

Hardly VA’s first project of this nature – I encourage you to poke around the DaP Station bandcamp for the rest of his catalog as well as a slew of other awesome lo-fi producers. The label has been in operation, staying true and DIY for 10 years now, so show some support!

Oh would you look at that face! How could you deny such blissful pleasure – sure pure joy, a joy you will obviously find after indulging in this lovely little beat tape by NANCY. Brought to us by Liebermann & Schwartz, a mysterious new imprint – 𝕭𝖗𝖔𝖔𝖐𝖑𝖞𝖓 𝕲𝖆𝖗𝖉𝖊𝖓𝖘 is a delicious little 7 track tape, packed with smooth samples and dusty chops. It’s pretty much been on rotation for me this past week. Premium piano riffs float effortlessly above boom bap percussion – doing justice to the proclaimed brooklyn theme, evoking feelings of rainy streets and kebab meats….

These 5 tracks demonstrate finesse with chops and drums, flourishing and swinging in all the right ways. With a touch of boom-bap and jazzhop flavors, this one is destined to be on repeat for a while…

Reminiscence, by Handbook

a2621025000_10

This May we are blessed by a fresh EP of beats from UK Producer Handbookreleased by Frances Cascade Records on May 4th 2018. The project features 7 chilled-out beats with a splash of vocal features for flavor.

In typical Handbook fashion, there is a patience to the instrumentals, demonstrating careful consideration for sonic layout. The percussion floats around the realm of boom-bap to chillhop, tracks like Mango swing so smoothly you can’t help but nod your head. Both live and sampled vocals are tastefully dashed into the mix, keeping the listen interesting from beginning to end.

Read more about the release and purchase a copy via Cascade Records bandcamp page, you can also stream the music on your favorite streaming service!

DaP Station & Zypher Unlabel Compilation 4

a3660407812_10

DaP Station Records and Zypher Unlabel have teamed up yet again for a bonkers compilation of spaced-out beats! Continuing the tradition begun years ago of creating genre-defying collections of music, this compilation acts as a reunion of sorts, bringing those producers still active back together for another sonic feast!

Of course there is a shameless plug for my own track in there, but the rest of the album is equally amazing with some truly gnarly beats and treats. Did I mention there is a cassette version which sounds great? Give it a listen…
