If you buy one techno album this year, make it Dub for Helly, a new compilation record benefitting dub-techno artist Helly Larson and his Brain Cancer Journey. Through the power of crowdfunding and the music community coming together, there are hopes to raise 30,000 EUR to help Helly conquer this epic battle with the help of a Private Clinic.

You can download the album or donate more via the albums Bandcamp page, or alternately you can donate money directly via GoFundMe.

Lars Helbig aka Helly Larson -Dub Techno and Deep House artists –

In addition to his crowdfunding campaign the community of artists around him has started this compilation to provide him with some good music, positive vibes and of course to help him to get the money he needs to survive.

Helly Larson has been producing music for more than 15 years now and contributed his releases to the people around the globe on labels like LucidFlow, Plastic City, Sofa Sessions, Etui Records and many more. Ibiza is a second home for him and his wife, where they play regular dj-sets at Ibiza Live Radio.

This compilation is a way to say THANK YOU HELLY AND STAY STRONG! All money goes to Helly Larson’s Brain Cancer Journey Fund.

Deepchord 01-06

DEEPCHORD presents us with a collection of tunes from days of old. Anyone who has read this blog for long knows I am a huge fan of deepchord and the days of Thinner Netlabel and the neverending plethora of Dub Techno that was being created at the time.

This wonderful little release gathers tracks produced by Mike Schommer & Rod Modell (collectively DEEPCHORD) between the years of 1997-1999. Striped-down and raw, each of the tracks is an impressive look into the duos early works. Ever present are the staples of their sound, muddled percussion and gorgeous melodic chordal progressions. The album is for sale via Bandcamp.

Optical Path by Yone B

Dewtone have some more goodies for us this month, this time from producer Yone B (Guillaume Couttenier) with his Optical Path EP. 4 tracks of soothing dub-techno that anyone familiar with Dewtone’s particular flavor will be able to appreciate. Both melodic and melancholy, filled with deep bass and shimmering percussion, Optical Path is a well rounded project with an attention to detail.

Colors is the latest project from ambient producer Patkus of Philadelphia. The 8-track project is a finely tuned exercise in melody and atmosphere. In each track, Patkus manages to craft a surprisingly comfortable ambiance, both familiar and mystical. The title track Colors is quite the inspired piece, weighing in at just over 10 minutes in length! Each track in itself is a unique microcosm that you can sink in and explore. It’s currently available on bandcamp so throw some support down and grab a high quality version to enjoy!

Favorite Track: 7. And After The Moon, The Sheltering Sky

Exposure, by Alex Humann

Archives brings us another stunning project from producer Alex Humann. He generously layers these three deep cuts with some seriously gorgeous sounds. Melodic, relaxing and round, the tone of the whole project is one of positivity and tranquility. Warmth jumps on board to provide track 4, a remix of track three, which really rounds out the whole project. You can listen or download via Bandcamp.

Favorite Track: 2. Interlude I

Alex Humann debuts on Archives with ‘Exposure’, where expands his own aesthetic through warm and organic sounds and subtle texture layers and field recordings. Three atmospheric and lush cuts with Alex very own approach to the dub

Lava Church has brought us a new techno-oddity, AWAY by Tile is a brooding swarm of electronic groves and groaning machines.

Over the years, Tile’s Jeff Busko has had a steady output of synthy jams that have slowly drifted into the realm of minimalist techno. Their latest release, Away, is a four-on-the-floor club banger sure to get your juices flowing. Meet me at da club, it’s going down.
